Do you make New Year’s resolutions, only to break them within a week or two? What do you resolve to do this year? If you look at the ads on social media and the products in stores, the new year seems to be about the new you–new diet, new workouts, new vitamins, new ways to be healhier. And these are all good things to do. And I have to admit, I renew my resolve to be healthier every year, too.
But do you ever feel like you just go through life? Does life just happen to you and you respond, or worse, react? One of the things I want to do is be more intentional. Make sure I call my kids regularly, connect with friends on a regular basis, follow up on prayer requests and think about what kind of legacy do I want to leave and then act on it.
My legacy: I want people to know I care about them. I want to really see them! Even if they’re strangers, like the cashier you’re checking out with. It means going beyond saying, “How are you?” in a superficial way.
How about you? No matter where you are in your life journey, it only takes a few seconds to smile, to say a kind word, a few more seconds to send a text and let someone know you’re thinking about him/her.
In a world that is increasingly divided, take the time to intentionally “see” and connect with the people you come into contact with each day. If they’re breathing, they need your smile, your kind word, your encouragement.
If your kids are grown and out of the house, or out of state like mine are, and you have the time to impact people, Hope for Single Moms has a variety of opportunities for you. You can volunteer regularly or occasionally, meet with a committee or volunteer from home. See volunteer opportunities on our website. Or download list now.
I’m looking forward to Hope for Single Moms having a greater impact in West Michigan in 2022. That happens only when people come together to make a difference. Can we count on you? Can you share our work with others–family, friends, coworkers? Because together, we are better! Because together, we can better serve single mom families in West Michigan and change lives!
Join us as we help these families write their own Cinderella story from poverty to prosperity with a career education!
