Calling all Santas! Play Santa to a Single Mom Family!

Help the women working with Hope for Single Moms have gifts for their children under the Christmas tree!

If you’re a single mom struggling to make ends meet, Christmas is an especially difficult time. If you like to give gifts and make kids smile, please play Santa to one of these families, or one child in a family.

There are currently five families in our program and with your support every child will receive gifts from their Christmas list.  And we’ve encouraged our moms to include something for themselves, too.

To be a Santa, click on the link by the family, select as many items as you’d like, put them in the cart and ship them to HSM. It’s that easy! Or if you prefer, click on the donate button and we’ll do the shopping for you! Every child deserves to have their eyes light up when they get up Christmas morning.

Join us in building stronger families, when you create holiday traditions and celebrations for our Hope for Single Moms women and children.

Kayla

Meet Kayla, Mom of 4: Kayla has been accepted into Grand Rapids Community College with the goal of getting a dental assisting certification. Kayla first found Hope for Single Moms when she was looking for support after her pre-born son passed during an emergency surgery she needed.

Kayla says connecting with Hope for Single Moms is the first time she’s received support since her first pregnancy at age fifteen. As a result, Kayla has hope as a single mom! Today, her dream is to provide well for her children.

Kayla is a hard worker, but her income has been restricted for two reasons:

(1) She hasn’t been able to acquire the career skills necessary for a higher-paying job, and

(2) She doesn’t have a car and is, therefore, restricted to taking jobs she can walk to.

One goal is to purchase a used car for Kayla. The other is to have gifts under the Christmas tree for her and her children.

Thank you to BDO for purchasing all of the Christmas wishes for Kayla and her family!

You can give Kayla and her family the gift of mobility when you donate to our car fund.

Tanya

Meet Tanya, Mom of 2. Tanya left a financially difficult and emotionally stressful living situation. She and her children found refuge with Tanya’s mother and stepdad. Tanya is driven to make an impact in her community and, as a result, has been offered a full-ride scholarship to University of Michigan’s online social work program.

However, she’s faced a few barriers to accepting this scholarship. In order to achieve her dream of caring for her family and her community, Tanya turned to Hope for Single Moms. So far, we’ve been able to get Tanya a laptop and pay the tuition for her prerequisite classes, which she is already working on.

One goal is to purchase a used car for Kayla. The other is to have gifts under the Christmas tree for her and her children.

You can give Tanya and her family the gift of mobility when you donate to their car fund.

"Susie"

“Susie” and her three daughters, ages 8, 10 and 14, left a difficult domestic situation. They currently live with “Susie’s” mother. In addition to going to the University of Michigan’s online social work program, “Susie” is also doing an unpaid internship and working.

Hope for Single Moms has provided “Susie” a laptop and the necessary car repairs needed to chauffeur her daughters around for their after-school activities.

One goal is to get Susie and her daughters their own place to rent. The other is to have gifts under the Christmas tree for her and the girls.

Thank you to BDO for purchasing all of the Christmas wishes for “Susie” and her family!

"Marie"

Marie and her two sons, ages 9 and 12, recently moved to Grand Rapids. “Marie” is not only new to GR, but she is newly divorced. She is working really hard at a local salon to provide for her boys. Hope for Single Moms paid the tuition fee for “Marie” to get certified in eyelash placement, adding to the services she is able to provide.

One goal is to help “Marie” build a firm foundation for her and her sons. We are working with a community banker to help “Marie” reduce the debt moving to Grand Rapids created. The other is to have gifts under the Christmas tree for her and the girls.

Thank you to BDO for purchasing all of the Christmas wishes for “Marie” and her family!

Lexi

Lexi graduated from GVSU in Dec 2020 and had Sage two weeks later. As a result, she was not able to complete her student teaching and get her certificate. Lexi returns to GVSU in January. Additional education will allow her to get that better-paying job so she and Sage can thrive.

Hope for Single Moms purchased a laptop for Lexi and got her car up and running smoothly, as well as help her make the move to Grand Rapids and pay for her tuition for classes beginning in January .

Our goal is to help Lexi finish strong so she and Sage can thrive! Another is to have gifts for them under the Christmas tree.

Thank you to BDO for purchasing all of the Christmas wishes for Lexi and Sage!
